Full proof security mulled for polling and counting, three layer security outside counting halls

AGARTALA, July 9 (TIWN) : The State Election Commission has arranged for full proof security in the polling and counting process for the coming three-tier Panchayat election, State Election Commissioner Yatendra Kumar said here today.

Speaking to reporters at the civil secretariat here this evening, State Election Commissioner Kumar said that multi angle video recording of the counting process would be set afoot to stop any scope of imperfection. Two static video cameras would be deployed for the counting tables, two cameras would be used for the RO table and the overall situation inside and outside the counting halls, he said.

The SEC would be using a total of forty counting halls across 35 blocks of the state on July 18. All 591 gram panchayats, 35 panchayat samities and eight Zilla Parishads of the state are scheduled to go to polls on July 15. Repoll, if needed, would be held on July 17.

Asked about details of security details outside the counting halls, the official said that three layers of security would be deployed.

The MHA recently approved 17 BSF training companies in response to a plea from the state government.

Tripura earlier sought 40 companies of central para military forces for election duty. After the ministry rejected the plea, the state Home Department sought 17 training companies for mobilization in polling stations, counting halls and strong rooms. The approved central forces can be deployed for area domination and law and order surveillance alone, the State Election Commissioner said.

165 special sector officers with equipments for videography would be recording love video of any incident which might be deemed necessary during polling process on July 15. 315 micro-observers would be deployed along the 35 observers. All observers are scheduled to reach concerned duty stations by Thursday morning, the State Election Commissioner said.

In a different incident, CPI (M) and Congress supporters engaged in a clash at Ward no. 07 at Jamjuti Panchayat in Gomati district on Tuesday night. Police said that five persons were injured in the clash among whom three were reported serious.

Amrita Das (26) and Jalil Miah (38) of Congress and Rahtul Miah (35) of CPI (M) are currently undergoing treatment at the Tripurasundari District Hospital and Kakraban Primary Health Center (PHC) respectively.

Jalil was attacked by certain CPI (M) cadres at Jamjuri locality on Tuesday night, a local source informed. Amrita came to his rescue and both came allegedly under attack from the CPI (M) supporters. Rahtul was later handed over to the police with a weapon, the source added.

Asked about the issue, the police informed that both parties had lodged FIR at Kakraban police station.
