AGARTALA, July 7 (TIWN): Secretary of Textile Ministry Ms Zohra Chatterjee heaped praise on the role of Bamboo and Cane Development Institute (BCDI) at Lichu Bagan for guiding artisans to develop their skills. Ms Chatterjee, who was on a two-day visit to the state, held meeting with state government officials and stakeholders of handloom, handicrafts and sericulture at Civil Secretary here on July 4.In the meeting, she reviewed the utilization of outlay allocated by the Textile Ministry for the last financial year. Director cum Commissioner of THHS PK Chakma conducted a power point presentation on the activities of the department before the Secretary, Ministry of Textile.

 Later, she visited the BCDI office at Lichu Bangan to see the activities of the institute, lone training institute on the bamboo and cane in the country.

“Ms Chattherjee visited our institute and interacted with artisans from Ethiopia, an African nation who are undergoing ten-day training programme at BCDI. She was extremely happy with the way things are going on here”, said an official here today. She also inspected the workshop to have a clear idea on what are the facilities available at BCDI. Artisans from Zimbabwe and Bhutan had already undergone skill development training programme at BCDI. Now, another batch from Ethiopia are undergoing skill development programme on bamboo and cane here.
