AGARTALA, July 1 (TIWN): Tripura's ruling Left Front government deprived scheduled tribes, scheduled castes and other under developed communities in availing proper facilities and securing proper representation in the state cabinet, an NGO claimed here today.Speaking to reporters at the Agartala Press Club here this afternoon, convener of Nirbhaya, an Agartala-based NGO Dr. Ashok Sinha, said that posts of deputy chief ministers were maintained till the tenure of the state's last left chief minister Dasharatha Deb. "We had tribal representation in posts as high as Deputy CM during the tenure of late former Chief Minister Nripen Chakraborty. Why there is no deputy CM in Tripura since 1998?" Dr. Sinha quipped.
The NGO functionary, who is also the spokesperson of the Tripura Pradesh congress Committe, said that reservation of backward communities and their proper representation was missing in most elected public representative bodies of the state.
The NGO today announced that it would be organizing a seminar on issues faced by under developed communities on July 06. Rebel left leader of West Bengal Rejjak Mollah would be attending the seminar, he said. Mollah was expelled from CPI (M) in February earlier this year following a series of rebellious statements from him. The firebrand rebel leader came out in stark criticism of the left alliance and its policies since the West Bengal assembly election debacle in 2011.
