AGARTALA, Feb 6 (TIWN): After agreed with the conditions prescribes under Central Govt's SMART City Mission with 50:50 fund-sharing by both Central and State, Tripura Urban Development Minister Manik Dey and AMC members visited around the City complexes to note down the available facilities at Agartala. Although the Tripura Govt has failed to re-model Agartala City with 10 % of SMART City shape, even after ruling here for 23 years, but the Central Govt had chosen Agartala City for a SMART City project as a part of NE development. But after agreed with 50:50 sharing of funds, the state govt is now under heavy pressure as atleast 1000 crores need to funded from Tripura Govt side. On Monday Urban Development Minister Manik Dey, AMC Mayor Prafullajit Sinha along with other Govt officials visited various spots. Their journey began from a 10 crore’s estimated shopping mall at Orient Chowmunahi.

Then they visited other shopping complexes and took notes of the whole Agartala City. Reportedly, Centre has asked the states selected under SMART City project to send a detail of available facilities of the capital city including the quality of work and this visit was a part of it.

But question remains, can the Tripura Govt invest for Rs. 1000 crores in SMART City project ? After the state govt announced that it has agreed with Centre’s SMART City proposal, one and only question which raising is that how the poor govt will manage this Rs. 1000 crores?

Talking to Urban Development Minister Manik Dey he said that for the sake of public’s welfare the Tripura Govt has agreed with this SMART City project with 50 : 50 sharing.

PM Modi’s Rs. 98,000 crores Urban Development project reels under corruption in Tripura Left-front Era, SMART City mission is also becoming a dream for Agartala.

Either in drainage project or implementing PMAY scheme Agartala is lagging behind in compare to other states. However, with the initiative of Modi Govt various developmental projects have been taken in hands and few have given under State Govt’s administration. SMART City is a part of these developmental projects.
