AGARTALA, Feb 1 (TIWN): After Tripura Govt failed to utilize the farmer-friendly budget, the Central Govt once again has declared an attractive budget for all the state. But doubt remains whether the state Govt will be able to utilize the budget ? The total allocation for rural, agricultural and allied sectors for 2017-18 is Rs 187223 crore, which is 24% higher than last year's. Reportedly, the government has committed to double farmers' incomes in 5 years, but doubt remains about Tripura as the farmers here undergoing heavy losses and the businessmen are looting the public with high prices, but no action has taken so far. Infact the CM himself declared that Tripura price hike is due to the import based items selling in the market. Although the farmer friendly budget was declared in last years also, but it failed to bring any affect to the market price.

The Agriculture Minister in Tripura  Aghore Debbarma announced in last Assembly atleast 64,754 farmers faced heavy losses due to flood, continuous rain in Tripura. However, at the primary level around 46,464 farmers will be provided with compensation, said Debbarma.  Most of the crops were spoiled due to this heavy, unseasonal rain. Various agricultural lands during the rainy weathers had taken the shape of water body, Debbarma said.

Shares of agri-related companies rose on Wednesday as Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in his Union Budget 2017-18 has announced Rs 5000 crore worth dedicated micro irrigation fund is to be set up by NABARD. The government fixed agri credit at a record of Rs 10 lakh crore and committed to double farmer income in next five years.

The last budget of 2015-16, was mainly focused on agriculture; and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley  challenged to double the income of the farmers. However, along with the 9 pillars of agricultural growth, various schemes were launched for the farmers, but under CPI-M Govt in Tripura the farmers have failed to bring any growth in their yearly production, resulting burning price of vegetables throughout the whole year, experienced by the common men.

The lack of productivity and Farmers’ rapid losing of interest in agriculture has become a matter of concern for Tripura’s economy as state’s main income has been considered as agriculture till day.

Whereas the tribal areas, had been fully centered with agro-based economy, but now they are focused on other cultivations as Rubber production. Kishan Call Centre in Tripura are for name-sake, neither the Govt shows any interest to motivate the farmers with various opportunities, facilities provided by the central govt.

However, Jaitley said, “We need to think beyond food security to income security, which will double income of farmers by 2022”.
