AGARTALA, Jan 25 (TIWN): On the occasion of 7th National Voters' Day, Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy green signaled about Indian Govt’s initiatives for minimizing the number of elections in the coming days. Addressing the gathering at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan, Tathgata Roy said, “The National Voters Day is a very important day for every Indians as it signifies the democracy. I’m proud to be an Indian and my Country has proven itself as a better country than its neighbours in the gap of 70 years of independence. The democracy has been preserved in India very concretelyâ€.“But in the name of democracy every year so many elections are held in the country, which create a chaos like situation around the whole year. Indian constitution was written by imitating British constitution, but the present Indian Govt is now taking initiatives to minimize the number of elections, so that development issues can be focusedâ€, said Governor. “At USA in the Month of November after every 4 years the election is held, so that the country can focus on other objectsâ€, said Roy.“However, in the 70 years of independence India has upgraded itself and at the same tim there was no hitting on the democracy. Amidst poverty, religion diversity Indians have proven themselves as better people. But time has come for some positive changes…â€, added Governor.
It’s worthy to mention here that Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 2016, said that too many elections in the country are coming in the way of the development of the country. It is time to discuss this problem and find a solution. “Our country’s misfortune is that everything is connected with elections,” he said.PM Modi said that the country is trapped in the cycle of elections. “It is time to take it out of this cycle. It is time to stop connecting everything with politics.” However, he noted that it can’t be done by a single party. “I hope that someday there will be a debate on this on a national level.”
Governor also said that in comparison to other Countries as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Srilanka, Myanmar which were ruled equally by British; India has developed the most. However, pressuring on more developments on the occasion of National Voters Day, the Governor hinted for the Indian Govt’s outcoming polling policies.
The programme held at Rabindra Bhawan where new voters and future voters were present. State Election Commissioner G K Rao, Principal Secretary of State Election Commissioner S K Rakesh, ADM Sadar Kuntal Das, Tripura Sports Icon Dipa Karmakar were present on that programme.
All the young stars at Rabindra Bhawan took oath as the upcoming voters led by Dipa Karmakar. Apart from that Principal Secretary S K Rakesh congratulated Tripura citizens for having a maximum number of voters per election.
“The progamme has 2 aims : 1) To motivate the existing voters for vote-casting in every elections, 2) To add new voters in voting list”, said G K Rao, the State Election Commissioner.
