AGARTALA, June 21 (TIWN): The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has prepared a Slum Free City (SFC) Action Plan to develop basic amenities and other facilities in the recognized slum areas of the city, Mayor Dr. Prafullajit Sinha said.
Speaking in the sidelines of an official briefing recently, the mayor said that the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) had 83 recognized slum areas according to a recent survey held by the Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY). The Slum Free City Action Plan was prepared by the ASCI,Hyderabad as a part of the city development drive in the Corporation area.
Speaking about details of the slum development initiative, the mayor said that three slum areas were selected for the first phase of work under Rajiv Awas Yojana. The selected slums are Ward no. 08 of Mulla Para,-Bitterban, Ward no. 11 in Battala Crematorium area, East & West Ambedkar area and Ward no. 30 of Hrishi Colony.
The National Buildings Constructions Corporation (NBCC) Limited was requested to prepare the Detailed Project report (DPR) as per revised guideline of RAY. Concerned beneficiaries agreed to the proposal and their consent list was sent to the NBCC authorities. The DPR preparation work is currently in progress following which it would be sent for approval to the state government and final submission to the
Government of India.
Tripura received a total of Rs. 60 lakhs under the Slum Free City Action Plan.The Corporation authorities recently initiated a project for renovation of Harijan Colonies as well. Bhagat Singh Harijan Colony
was developed using a fund of Rs. 24.88 lakhs and Barjala Harijan Colony was developed with a fund of Rs. 45.15 lakhs in 2012-2013.
