AGARTALA, Aug 28 (TIWN): With dry weather, the renovation of NH44 (8) is underway in full swing. Woos of the common people might come to an end with the progress in renovation work of the NH44 is underway. According to the source, Construction agency is carrying out renovation work at different spots of the road. The entire stretch of the road is repaired expect 50 metre from Khasiapunji. ABCI construction Company chief Engineer claims that if the dry weather continues the 50 metre road will be repaired in next two days. He further said that renovation of a road is a continuous process and agency is continuously carrying out the renovation work to avoid any traffic glitch on the NH44 as it is one of the lifelines of Tripura.

The deplorable condition of National Highway 44 (8)– the only road connectivity that links mainland India with the eastern part of Meghalaya, Barak Valley in Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura – has for a long time now remained a harrowing experience for helpless commuters but it seems that the road will be renovated soon and there will smooth movement of vehicle in the street. If weather remains good the work will be maintained smoothly but if untimely rain hit the state the work may get delayed.

After massive doldrums with the NH44(8) finally the renovation is underway and it is expected that the work will be completed soon.

Lack of repairing of the NH8-44 road especially from Churaibari to Lowerpoa has left the road in poor condition.  The particular road has not undergone any permanent renovation till now and the initial repairing of the road has left the road in critical condition.

Alleged negligence of Assam government has paralysed the National Highway 44(8) from Lowerpoa of Assam’s Karimganj district up to Churaibari Assam gate is laying in a terrible state.

The reason behind such dilapidated condition of the road is due to the negligence of the central government and Assam government. Although the responsibility of the repairing work is given to an organisation by the Assam government but the work is progressing in slow pace triggering resentment among the people.

The condition of National Highway has worsened after it was handed over to the State PWD by NHAI, which raised hopes among the commuters that their troubles would meet an end. But their hopes went to vein as the condition of the NH 8 -44 is getting worse day by day. After taking over the charge of maintenance of NH8  -44 the PWD is not working up to the mark.

The poor condition of the NH8-44 has lead to endless sufferings for the people who travel through this road.

After the state PWD department took over the charge of maintenance of NH8-44, the PWD has not work up to the mark for its maintenance. After the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MORTH) handed over development and maintenance of 104 km of the Assam Agartala National Highway (NH8-44) to the PWD from Border Roads Organization (BRO) in July 16th, 2013, the condition of theNH8-44 has worsen day-by-day due to negligence of PWD.

State Govt's apathy towards maintaining NH8-44 in proper condition resulted in turning Tripura's lifeline NH-44 into a ditch in CM Manik Sarkar's so called 'golden era' and has turned to death trap and is left in pathetic condition raising the woe of the common people.
