No major threat ahead of I-Day celebration, Indo-Bangla border security tightened, Security checking underway in every corner of state: says SP West

AGARTALA, Aug 14 (TIWN): Tripura is now a hot cake for smuggling and other anti nationalist activities due to the back to back attacks in the NE and also due to threats of NLFT, ATTF, intrusion of Bangladeshi militant and many other anti nationalist organisation. Although Union ministry, BSF have sounded high alert in the state, but there is serious militant threat in the state ahead of Independence Day celebrations. With report of militant attack at Assam the security of the state is put on high alert. The security forces are asked to maintain a maximum vigil along the Bangladesh border to foil any attempt of intrusion and illegal cross-border movement. Mountainous terrain, dense forests and other natural hindrances make the unfenced border porous and vulnerable, enabling illegal immigrants and intruders to cross over without any hurdle. As the Independence Celebration is just few hours away, security has been massively tightened across the state. Talking to TIWN correspondent, West SP Abhijit Saptarshi said that with the aim to observe error free celebration of Independence day at Tripura security vigil along the border has also been given special attention.

He further said that so far there is no major threat in Tripura ahead of Independence day celebration however without taking any chance Tripura police along with BSF, TSR, CROF is giving special attention to the security of the state.

Besides huge number of personnel from the local police, those from the special cell and security wing of the West Police were also pressed into service for security arrangements while the traffic police took care of smooth vehicular movement, West SP Abhijit Saprtarshi.

Security has been beefed up keeping a close check in the vehicles including busses and other passenger cars. The hotels and roads are kept under strict check with the help of sniffer dogs and metal detectors, SP added.

As a part of tight security arrangement in the city, the police have set strict vigilant in the check-points of the city.

West SP further said that a fool-proof security plan is in place and we are prepared for any eventuality. People from the general public are requested to cooperate.

Special checking of all vehicles, both private and commercial, entering State from neighboring states through border entry points is being carried out, added.

Besides, BSF jawans are keeping strict vigilance along the 856-km long Indo-Bangla border. Going by the increase in number of infiltration attempts in the recent past, extra care is being taken to keep a check on such activities as well.

Paramilitary forces are conducting search operations in the interior parts of the state. Besides, security will also be tightened at the airport soon.

Along with the nation Tripura will also observe 69th Independence Day on August 15, following which preparation has already began for the parade at Assam riffle ground. Preparation is on the full swing to observe the 69th Independence Day in great enthusiasm and national fervor.
