AGARTALA, July 25 (TIWN): Central Govt’s crores of funding for Assam-Tripura road gone into waste as lack of security, corruption by local CPI-M contractors/ workers have become an obstacle in progressing the NH-44 renovation work. Corrupt State Govt officials, cadre led black-marketing of stone business is on the peak at Lowairpoa road even though central govt paid for all these road construction materials for filling work. But, in a planned manner stones are dumped on the day time, at evening CPi-M party cadres, miscreants stealing same stones by hired vehicles.TIWN visited the Lowairpoa-Churaibari Highway on Sunday, where such illegal activities were unearthed. The contractors is however not ready to use bricks as bricks cannot be sold again after it mixes with muds. But stones can be easily sold after washing with water. However, such illegal businesses are are going on since decades on Tripura-Assam smuggling route via Churaibari Checkpost. During dry season, at least 300 to 400 vehicles are entering Tripura daily without giving any tax to the state govt. by bribing Churaibari Check-Post officials, but due to NH-8 (44) pathetic condition, the business hampered for a while.

So corrupt State officials and contractors resorted to illegal stone-stealing business.

In the month of February TIWN unearthed the illegal export-import was going on at Churaibari area also in kathaltali. The place has been identified as Kurti Jerjeri which has become the centre for illegal exchanges between the neighboring States Assam and Tripura.

On the other hand, Tripura CPI-M has criticized the Assam Govt. on Sunday via a press meet.

Bijan Dhar on Sunday at Melarmath Party office said that the Kathaltali road, which is the alternative road for Assam-Tripura is being used since one year.

Due to excess –pressure upon Kathaltali-road, the road has been in pathetic shape. Now the Govt. is spending lakhs and lakhs to repair the road. The Kalatali road was closed, till last year, but after it was opened now it has become the life-line for Assam-Agartala.

On the other hand under the Assam Govt. and Tripura Govt, both the NH-8(44) in pathetic condition.

But CPI-M State Secretary Bijan Dhar didn’t mention about state wide Tripura’s roadway's horrible condition due to PWD’s huge corruption.

Such pathetic situation of Tripura roadways under Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s 23 years rule & Earlier Assam Cong Govt. that, elephants are brought on muddy roadways to push the vehicles and bamboos are being used for smoothening the journey.

Shame on Manik Sarkar’s so called ‘Golden Tripura ‘ as mass suffering on NH-8(44) continues  !
