AGARTALA, July 24 (TIWN): AMC has violated Modi Govt.’s SMART City Mission by taking extra tax in the name of SMART City project.

In a Press meet BJP Spokesperson Mrinal Kanti Deb said, whereas in SMART City project it’s clearly said that by developing Urban bodies Govt. would gather the fund for SMART City and via tax, profession etc the fund can be increased, but AMC now using Central Govt.’s name to loot the common men with high charged tax.

Moreover, for A & C category people AMC has made a separate rule, whereas B category people are the worst sufferer, he added.

However, BJP Spokesperson also apologized for the calculation done by BJP about tax, but he added, this is not because of calculation fault, but the Notification itself is a faulty.

Central Govt. clearly said that the urban bodies will decide the tax, so whatever tax is taking it’s fully AMC’s decision. The central govt. has no role in it.

Deb further criticized TMC for their double standard. TMC on Saturday along with CPI-M blamed the Central Govt. for tax hike, whereas the Central Govt. has no role in it.

It’s worthy to mention here that the tax increasing issue has become a hot issue in state as, BJP, Trinamool had hit AMC office and whole Agartala City on Saturday.

The Notification is written in AMC Website is like that :  

Urban Development Dept. Govt. of Tripura vide a notification no. F-14-(2) UDD/DUD/2013/8510-814 Dated Agartala 25^th January, 2016 replaced the existing Tripura Municipal (Assessment and Collection of Property Tax), rules 2004 with new rules Tripura Municipal (Assessment & Collection of Property Tax), rules 2016 and subsequently as per rule (1) and (6) of new rule, the Urban Development Dept. has also notify the Municipal Valuation Committee for AMC vide notification F-14 (2) UDD/DUD/2013/ 10895/904/Dated Agartala16th March 2016 and further, the AMC has also co-opted non official members of the comitte for the preparation and proposed property zone and unit area in its meeting held on 11/7/2016 has approved the proposal of Valuation Committee and thus many rules over taxes have also been implemented over the people including the slum area living people.

However the tax will be taken by per square meter measure and homes at Agartala town have been categorized  into 4 groups A B C D.

1.     For A catergory property zone as per lowest randomly selected proeprtly values, it comes Rs. 520.80/- as per square feet. Hence  10 % proportion faction for unit area value is considered as Rs. 50. (For Kolkata this fraction has been taken as Rs. 85).  (Question arises why AMC has to tell in Website that for Kolkata it’s Rs. 85?? Is the living standar of both of the places are same?? How much difference between Mamata-Manik Govt.’s pay scale—AMC would study that first.

2.     For B categories Rs. 434 . So 10 % proportion faction for unit area value is considered as Rs. 45,

3.     For C categories Rs. 405 . So 10 % proportion faction for unit area value is considered as Rs. 40,

4.     For D category Valuation Zone is (Slums, /Three number Abasans), it will be Rs. 35.
