MELAGHAR, July 6 (TIWN): Like every year, this year too an eye-catching crowd was observed in Melaghar Rath-Yatra Celebration.

TIWN correspondent and Photographers arrived there on Wednesday morning and according to their reports although rain occupied the festival season but there was no sign of lethargy among the devotees during the whole day.

Thousands of people gathered to observe the Rath-Yatra. During the visit, TIWN correspondents held talk with locals and various devotees who came from far distance to see the fair.

Talking to the locals they said, ‘In Melaghar, after Durga Puja, the biggest gathering of people is for Rath Yatra. People enjoy the festival forgetting their religion and children also bring out small chariots.

But after 2 PM, especially during the Yatra / Rath-taan the crowd became unmanageable. Police and security was tighten in allover Melaghar during the occasion. Melaghar RathaYatra is one of the oldest and biggest fair  of  Tripura.

The biggest Rath festival of Tripura is observed at Melaghar Jagannath Bari. From every corners of Tripura people arrives to have a glimps of Melaghar Rath. It takes place during the month of Ashar or Sraban and people from various religions participate here.

Every year in July it is held at Jagannath Bari field. Thousands of people come to increase the crowd and popularity.

The main function took place in the Jagannath Temple where hundreds of thousands of devotees thronged to pull the Chariot of Lord Jagannath. But across the whole subdivision there were stalls and small Rath-Yarta programmes.

Jagannath, which means the keeper of the universe, is believed to be an incarnation of the Hindu God Krishna, said a devotee to TIWN.
