AGARTALA, June 27 (TIWN): North Tripura’s Dharmanagar subdivision turned into a inter-state smuggling den & a hub for Bangaldeshi and Assam based criminal gangs. Due to unholy association of Assam, Siliguri, Bangladesh based smuggling gangs with local CPI-M, CITU leaders, BSF, Police forces, Dharmanagar’s law & order deteriorated over the decade. In broad-day light on Monday, 2 youths were beaten up brutally by few mafias at a open market. Reportedly, on Monday in search of a criminal named Jewel Deb, a local mafia Suman Debnath along with his 4 member gang rushed to resident Akash Roy’s house, robbed valuables and beaten him almost to death. Getting no information about Jewel Deb, Suman Debnath further reached Akash Roy’s’s friend Sujit Deb’s shop. In similiar way, mafias beaten up Sujit Deb seriously in broad-day light and looted gold and valuables. Mafia clash developed into street war as police and mafia open fight erupted. Mafia victim Akash Roy (20) is a resident of Shiv Bari where he was beaten front of his his family members. Sujit Deb (25) (who was cruelly beaten in the market) was in his shop at Vevekananda Raod,Plaza Shopping Complex. Daytime riminal activity, mafia war raises the questions about Dharmanagar’s law & order situation.
Goons also snatched away a gold chain from Sujit Deb and looted his shop of Rs. 25,000/-cash.
The mafias have been identified as : Suman Debnath, S/O- Nibaran Debnath resident of Algapur in Baruakandi - he was the leader of that gang. Three more persons were there named Nibaran Nath, Sanjay Nath and Amit Paul. The first two are residents of Suman Debnath’s area i.e. Algapur in Baruakandi, whereas Amit Paul is a resident of Noapara. The victims were severly beaten up with bicycle chains. FIR have been lodged against them and 4 of them have been pushed to lock up.
It’s worthy to mention here that day by day Dharmanagar subdivision is becoming unsafe for living as mafias rule the town and all kinds of illegal activities run my mafia gangs.
Just a day before, Govt. officials along with 5 were arrested for playing gambling in office hours in a open market at Dharmanagar. Sources said that among the 7 persons, 2 worked in DM office, but everyday they go out in lunch hours and come back after 3 pm to office for gambling. The seven arrested are : Dipak Nath, Lal Rutra Darlong, Suman Roy, Niranjan Deb, Sunil Nath, Dhriti Debnath, Hiralal Debbarma.
Gambling, Drug smuggling and illegal liquor sales are relentlessly active at Northern Tripura. Allegations were raised that police is keeping mum in exchange of bribes, hence, mafia activities are being conducted before the very nose of police.
People scared to raise their voice against the immoral activities as the mafia gangs are backed by political strong men CPI-M, CITU leaders.
Incidents like today raises a question mark on Chief Minister cum Police Minister Manik Sarkar’s tall claim of ‘Peaceful state’ / ‘State for Tranquility’.
