BG Express train service cannot commence its journey by this month, hill tracks are creating problem, NFR Construction official Pratap singh talks to TIWN

AGARTALA, June 23 (TIWN): Commencement of BG Express train is a distant dream as there is no signal to start the express train by this month.

Talking to TIWN correspondent, NFR Construction official Pratap singh said tracks in the hills are creating problem for the commencement of BG express train the state. Although the deadline is crossed but the service is yet to mark off from the state.

He further said that there is no possibility to start the train at least for next two weeks. At some spot NFR is also planning to construct a alternate route as tracks in the hills are frequently creating problem.

He also said that although there is a possibility to run the train by June but uncertainty looms large as landslides in the hills especially with the tracks crossing Haflong appears to be problematic for running the train.

He also said that if the tracks are cleared the train will easily run.

The much hyped BG express train service which was supposedly scheduled to begin its journey from has failed to begin its journey shattering the hopes of common people of Tripura.

It is to be mentioned here that the NFR, which is supposed to declare the date for commencement of express train service at the earliest, is yet to do the same.

However, the sources said that NFR wants to repair the defects at Dharamanagar railway station to ensure full safety before starting the BG express train service from Tripura.

Improving the transport and connectivity in the landlocked Tripura of the northeast region is one of the top most priorities of the government. A lot of focus is being laid to enhance railway connectivity in the region.

In the first phase, the 210-km Lumding-Silchar gauge conversion project was completed last year. In the second phase, the 227-km Badarpur-Agartala gauge conversion was scheduled to be completed in March but was completed three months earlier. With the completion of gauge conversion work right up to Agartala, the Tripura capital was connected with the country’s broad gauge railway network through Guwahati at a distance of about 600 km.
