AGARTALA, June 22 (TIWN): Transportation in Tripura faced major jolt due to the blockade of NH-44 and Railway service by the unruly IPFT in demand of their Twipra land. It is to be mentioned here that raising the slogans of “rail roko” IPFT have blocked the railway service in Tripura along with the NH44.With the blockade of NH44, transport movement have simply come to a halt as the unruly IPFT have blocked the traffic movement on the road in demand of Twipra land. Around 10,000 agitators blockaded the NH-44 and the railway line, shouting slogans intermittently. However, huge security is deployed to avoid the occurrence of any untoward incident at the spot. As a part of implementing their demand in full force IPFT President NC Debbarma along with Rajeshwar Debbarma and other party supporters remained present in the spot.Impractical demand of IPFT has cut off Tripura completely in terms of transportation from other states with their blockade of NH44.Although all the major political forums in Tripura have raised their voice against the demand of IPFT for separate state yet IPFT is observing 24 hour strike by halting NH44 and railway service on Wednesday.

It is to be mention here that  after getting no response of forming a separate land for the indigenous people, the unruly IPFT has called for unethical form of strike.

The unruly IPFT, in a statement earlier, called for blockade of the Assam-Agartala National Highway on June 22 for 24 hours to press for their demand. This demand is aimed at destabilising the communal harmony between tribal and non-tribal communities of the state and against peace and development of the state.

Once again IPFT is trying to fan unrest in the State where ‘peace has returned after two decade long insurgency and ethnic turmoil. IPFT which is known as a hardliner party and often blamed for its alleged soft stance on extremist movements is clearly trying to woo the tribal society after years of political isolation.

With the aim to strengthen its demand for a separate land to achieve ‘Twipra-land’ with areas under tribal autonomous district council to protect the rights and identity of Tripura’s tribal population, The Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT), a tribal based party in Tripura has decided to halt NH44 and stop railway service which would further spark off communal tension in the state.

The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) has decided to adopt a new form of agitation to halt NH444 and railway service on June 22 for 24 hours which is strongly criticised by the ruling LF party.

However, the decision was strongly criticised by the ruling party and urged people not to follow the strike. The ruling party is strongly against the decision of IPFT to halt NH44 and railway service and said that IPFT is trying to fan the violence in the state in the name of strike.
