KAMALPUR, May 26 (TIWN): At a time when the state government got all set to sell electricity to Bangladesh in more increased amount then the TSECL failed to provide continuous supply of power to the consumers.

But the Corporation continued to extort money from the consumers through different means. And the practice remained the same for the very beginning of the Corporation.

The TSECL started its operation its operation from 1 st January, 2005. Then on new energy meters were given to the consumers. It got assured by the Corporation that the price of the meters would be charged from the consumers in small and easy instalments.

Maximum consumers fitted those new meters at their houses, shops and factories. From the very next month of the fitting, the consumer got term in their energy bill as ‘meter rent’ along with another term ‘fixed charge’.

Now, the price of the meter became an unresolved mystery as the consumers had to pay the instalments even today every month. And it became a point of astonishment that how the price of the meter could not be paid by the consumer in those long 11 years. More interestingly, the charge of the meter increased from initial 25 rupees to 40 rupees now. And the fixed charge also remained there at a static amount of 10 rupees per month.

Now, neither the government nor any political party found keen to go to the root of the mystery and to stop the extortion of the consumers. And the TSECL which failed to curb the use of hook lines continued to increase tariff to fetch more money from those consumers who used to pay the bills regularly.
