AGARTALA, May 7 (TIWN): Modi’ s ‘act-east’ policy is in action as NFR (Northeastern Frontier Railway) fulfilled the demand of BG passengers train service from the landlocked state in Agartala-Silchar route. Tripura has made its place in the railway map of the world connecting with rest of India. A pair of passenger train had started roiling its wheel between Silchar and Agartala and these particular trains would run until May 20. It is to be mentioned here that a train with 10 general coaches and two luggage-cum-parcel vans boarding 333 passengers left Silchar for Agartala on Friday last and the similar train left Agartala station for Silchar on Saturday morning sharp at 9 am. The enthusiasm among the people at the Agartala railway station on Saturday morning revealed that BG passenger train service was a long pending demand in the state and finally seeing it happening brought respite from transportation sufferings.Recently, with the trial run of the train on the newly converted broad-gauge (BG) track of Agartala-Badarpur route upto Agartala railway station has created a milestone in the history of Tripura.

Tripura and most of the part of Northeast India was long neglected since independence by successive Congress Governments at Centre starting from Jawharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi’s time to till the era of Sonia Gandhi / Monmohan Singh. Without the zeal and drive of a dynamic Prime Minister like Narendra Modi, it would have been impossible for Tripura to get BG Train in next few decades.

Improving the transport and connectivity in the landlocked Tripura of the northeast region is one of the top most priorities of the government. A lot of focus is being laid to enhance railway connectivity in the region.

In the first phase, the 210-km Lumding-Silchar gauge conversion project was completed last year. In the second phase, the 227-km Badarpur-Agartala gauge conversion was scheduled to be completed in March but was completed three months earlier. With the completion of gauge conversion work right up to Agartala, the Tripura capital was connected with the country’s broad gauge railway network through Guwahati at a distance of about 600 km.

With the everyday progress in the conversion work, the common mass of the state is observing a ray of hope for faster communication and transportation with the introduction of express train in teh coming days.

Days are not so far when after the BG (Broad gauge) passenger train service, express train will also run on the newly converted BG track.

The pace of the conversion work shows that Agartala will soon be connected with the BG track to bring in sync with the rest of the country.

The successful run of the trains on the broad-gauge track will bring sync with those in the rest of the country and Tripura is gearing up for faster connectivity and communication with several parts of the nation.

Also most competent Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu is also one of the reasons for NFR Railways rapid expansion in northeast region.
