AGARTALA, April 16 (TIWN): Goddess Basnati, who is popularly known as Goddess of Spring for Bengali people was given traditional goodbye on Saturday with Bisarjan of Goddess's idol.
Thousands of women took part in Sindur Khela which took place on the last day of Basanti puja.
It’s believe that King Surath performed the first ever Durga Puja in Spring after getting instructions from Sage Medh, who had lost his kingdom and thus performed Basanti Puja to get back their kingdoms. This started the ritual of performing Basanti Durga in Basant season or Chaitra Month.
Since last 4 days Bengali people here and across other parts of the country has been celebrated Basanti Puja with pomp and glory.
Both Basanti puja and Durga puja are equally important for Bengali people.
The difference between the two occasions Durga Pujas------Basanti Puja and Sharadiya Durga Puja- lies in their origin and time of celebration, rituals remain the same.
This relegated Basanti Puja however commented as to near oblivion but this Basanti Puja, is still performed in few Bengali households and also in Durga temples of Tripura.
Many Durga temples are observing this ritual since King’s era.
