North East has huge potential for start ups, says DoNER minister : Tripura turns graveyard as no new industries, investments under Manik's golden era

AGARTALA, March 31 (TIWN): When Prime Minister Modi driven 'Act-East' policy bringing enormous developments, infrastructures, investments in Northeast India from Airports to BG Railways, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar alongwith his lameduck Industry & IT Minister Tapan Chakraborty chosen to keep silent on development of State economy. Due to Manik Sarkar’s narrow minded politics, Tripura’s former Industry Minister Jiten Chaudhury was shunted out of State to eliminate ‘future threat’ to CM’s chair. Due to Manik Sarkar’s low minded politics, Tripura is paying the price as no Industry came forward to invest in Tripura after removal of dynamic Minister Jiten Chaudhury from cabinet. Tripura Govt has Industry, IT, Commerce departments for the name sake as no government initiatives are taken to attract investments, employment generation for educated youths. Union Minister Jeetendra Singh on Wednesday said the North East has huge potential for start ups and that venture funds and other facilities can be provided for the start ups. "In years to come, North East will become the destination for young start ups," he said, addressing a seminar on sub-regional cooperation between India, Myanmar and Bangladesh. Tripura's unemployment rate remained amongst the highest in country due to Manik Sarkar Govt's apathy.

Singh, minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), said that "For India’s “Act East” policy to be effective, we first need to act for the development of North Eastern region along the international borders. 

“The areas along international borders should be developed for the overall development of the region,” he said.

He said that India is on the threshold of becoming a superpower and for that there should be full realisation of youth power and equitable growth of all the regions in the country. 

The daylong event saw discussions on topics like economic cooperation in the sub region, trends and patterns of trade between India, Myanmar and Bangladesh, economic cooperation through connectivity and FDI. 

Irrespective of Central Govt initiatives, Tripura has a long way to go to attract investments,job creation under the lameduck leadership of Manik Sarkar.
