National School of Drama: Eight states of India to perform during Bal Sangam

AGARTALA, March 14 (TIWN): National School of Drama TIE Wing’s Campus to organize five-day long festival, Bal Sangam at Nazrul kalashetra on March 16.

This year to present the folk arts in the form of folk performances, al total of eight states is expected to come together.

Addressing a press conference, it has been mentioned that regional folk performances like Manipur, Tribal Dance, Pung Cholam, Maibi jagoi, Abhiyan Assam Log Bihu, Lailung khan, folk song from Rajesthan, Sufinna Kalam from Sarabuj, West Bengal patta Nach, jeng bihu, Ganesh Vandana from Jharkhand Monpa dance from Arunachal Pradesh and other performance will be done.

It has been mentioned that Bal Sangam in an effort to bring folk and urban face to face. It is an effort to expose the children and young citizens to real strength of Indian folk and traditional performing arts.

The National School of Drama is one of the foremost theatre training institutions in the world and the only one of its kind in India.

It was set up by the Sangeet Natak Akademi as one of its constituent units in 1959.

However, in the year 1975, the it became an independent entity and was registered as an autonomous organization under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, fully financed by the Ministry of Culture.

Training in the School is highly intensive and is based on a thorough, comprehensive, carefully planned syllabus which covers every aspect of theatre and in which theory is related to practice.

As a part of their training, students are required to produce plays which are then performed before the public.
