Re-polling records 84.15 percent turn-out at Jampui and Charilam village committee

AGARTALA, Feb 26 (TIWN): A total 84.15 percent of votes have been recorded on Friday at the re-polling of Village Committee election at Jampui and Charilam with the report of no untoward incidents.

“Casting of votes was absolutely peaceful and free of any kind of untoward incidents. A total of 84.15 percent has recorded till the completion of votes in the concern area”, said Deputy State Election Commission Secretary Tamal Majumder on Friday.

Talking to TIWN correspondent, Deputy State Election Commission Secretary stated that altogether 89.6 percent has been recorded in the village committee election at Jampui where as Charilam has a record of 78.7 percent of votes.

Besides, he also mentioned that no untoward incident has been reported from any of the polling booth. Even the political parties have also not complained about any untoward incidents.

It is to be mentioned here that the re-polling of Village Committee Election has been conducted in two village committee of Jampui and Charilam.

Reportedly, election has been conducted in two village committee which includes Bangshibari ADC village (ward number 2, 3, 4) and Longtrai ADC village (ward number- 7).

However, polling at Bongshi Bari under Charilam Block has been conducted in Rangapalia School.

According to the reports, till 1pm the vote has been recorded 40 percent. The polling was suppose to be end by February 24 but due to some issue re-polling has been conducted over four seats.

However, it is to be mentioned here that left front has already won the election in 59 village committee by 902 seats as there were no opposition to contest the election.

Therefore, this year village committee election has been contested in 528 village committees for 3, 695 seats.

However, during the village committee election altogether 1262 polling stations has been set up on February 24.

However, the sources from different polling station said that rain has hampered the polling spirit among the voters. Rigging is also alleged from different polling stations.

On the other hand, keeping eye on peaceful election, multi-layered security has been observed at every polling station. Besides, the BSF were also on high alert to maintain strict vigilance over the Indo-Bangla border area so that no illegal intrusion can take place.

It is to be mentioned here that the counting of votes is expected to be conducted on February 27.
