AGARTALA, Feb 21 (TIWN): Tripura's first Broad Gauge (BG) goods train to arrive Jirania station on Monday morning officially even though it started it onward journey towards Agartala from Dharmanagar on Sunday morning 10.30am . Ecstasy ran high among the common people when the traditional whistle of the BG train was first heard at Dharmanagar station creating a history in Tripura. As per the schedule, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Saturday inaugurated the first two commercial goods trains for Tripura and Manipur from Silchar on the newly converted BG track. The two goods trains, flagged off by the Minister were for Jirania station in Tripura and Jiribam in Manipur's East Imphal district. Tripura has finally made it to the national BG rail network when the first goods loaded train arrived into Dharmnaagar after series of doldrums.The train was received amidst cheers and enthusiasm when the rail head along with 42 bogies amidst cheers and happiness. PM Narendra Modi’s “Look east” policy has made it successful to pave the way of the BG railway service to Tripura after years of waiting.2016 has created a history for Tripura as Narendra Modi led Central Govt accelerated growth in Northeastern region.

Rail connectivity in all the state of the Northeast by 2020 is the topmost priority of the BJP led union government and expectation for the passengers train service from Tripura is also high.

The broad gauge will help boost Tripura's economy and overall development and after years of political mind game the people of Tripura have got their first BG train in the state. 

Reportedly, The British took just eight years to lay the metre gauge.

But due to politics and lacklustre attitude of Manik ruled state governmentnad its political partner Congress, it took years to change the metre gauge into Broad-gauge

It is only because of the focus of the central government that today Tripura has made its entry to the railway map of the nation. 

Due to the government's lacklustre attitude and the failure of elected representatives, it took years to witness the BG railways service to the state. 

All these sped up work is only due to the good initiatives of the central government. 

The whistle of the broad gauge train captured the air of Sunday. After a long period finally the laying and constructing of Broad Gauge (BG) Railway tracks of Mega Block conversion from Badarpur to Agartala has already been completed. Adding another milestone in the history of Tripura, the land-locked state has finally made its entry in the BG Railway map of the country.
