Campaigning for VC poll undergoes in full swing

AGARTALA, Feb 19 (TIWN): Just when counting days are left for the Village Committee election scheduled to be held on February 24, political parties are observed busy with the campaigning procedure.

Reportedly, political parties are busy in holding door to door campaigning and rallies in various parts of the state.

Besides, along with Left-front, Congress and BJP also kicked off their door to door campaign with the aim to win the village committee election this year. The candidates have been visiting door to door urging for votes towards the common people.

It is to be mentioned here that election to 587 village committees would be held on February 24.

However, it is expected the results will be announced on February 27. The commission set February 5 as last date for filing of nomination.

Urging for votes is still continuing all across the voting area. During the visit at the houses of the common people, the leaders claimed to serve the interests of the common people, fight communalism and pursue an independent foreign policy.

It is for the people to determine what shape the alternative government is to take, urged the leaders while participating in the door to door campaign.

As per the rule, the Electoral Rolls of all 2634 Village Committee constituencies have been prepared by segregating the Assembly Electoral Rolls now in force in the state. 

According to the reports, the total number of electors of all the 2634 constituencies are 7, 68, 404 which includes, 3,89,292 Male and 3, 79,112 Female.

However, it has been mentioned that there are 587 number of village committees for eight districts and 1451 polling stations will be set up for the upcoming village committee election.

Detailing about the polling stations it has been mentioned that altogether 160 polling stations will be set up for 60 number of village committee at North District, 92 Polling Stations for 32 number of village committee at Dhalai District, 155 polling stations for 69 number of village committee at Khowai District, 198 polling stations for 85 number of village committee at West District.

Besides, a total of 141 polling stations for 58 number of village committee at Sepahijala District, 243 polling stations for 103 number of village committee at Gomati District and 166 polling stations for 70 number of village committee at South District.
