Eleven police announced for President’s Police Medal

AGARTALA, Jan 27 (TIWN): On the occasion of the celebration of the Republic Day, altogether eleven officials were awarded with President’s Police Medal for distinguished service and meritorious service.

It is to be mentioned here that IGP (Law and Order), PHQ of Agartala Anurag has been awarded with President’s Police Medal for distinguished service.

Besides, the officials who were selected for President’s Police Medal for Meritorious service are- Inspector of Police of Sepahijala Amal Chakraborty, Sub Inspector (UB), O/O SP, Special Branch Sekhar Datta, Sub Inspector (AB), O/O SP (Security) of AD Nagar Jayanta Nath, ASI UB, GRP Sudip Kar, Havildar (GD), THQ 12-Bn TSR, Khowai Sajal Kumar Paul and Samarendra Jamatia of Havildar (GD), 2nd Bn TSR, R.K Nagar.

Similarly, for President's Home Guard and Civil Defence Medal for Meritorious service- officers Ratan Chakraborty, Home Guards, Tripura and Abdul Rahman, Home Guard, Tripura were selected.

The President's Police Medal is a decoration awarded to members of law enforcement in India. However, the award has been established on March 1, 1951, the medal was originally called the President's Police and Fire Service Medal.

Awards and honours of the Commonwealth realms ceased to be awarded in India after the promulgation of the Constitution of India on 26 January 1950. Upon becoming a republic, it was necessary for India to establish its own honours system.
