Governor greets citizens on the occasion of Republic Day

AGARTALA, Jan 25 (TIWN): Governor Tathagata Roy has conveyed his warm greetings to the citizens of the State on the upcoming auspicious occasion of Republic Day to be celebrated on January 26.

In his message, Governor Tathagata Roy said that this is a very important day for the nation. As on this day the nation had accepted the constitution where the people were given equal rights and assured brotherhood.

The new Indian constitution was sketched and approved by the Indian Constituent Assembly and decided to celebrate it on 26th of January every year as India became a republic country.

Besides, he has paid his respectful homage to the freedom fighters and the founding fathers of our Republic who devoted their lives to the service of the nation.

In his message, he has said that the Republic Day is an appropriate occasion to recall and reaffirm the cherished principles of liberty, equality, fraternity and justice for all, as enshrined in our Constitution.

Besides, he also mentioned that with the development of the Nation all the States also develop. Further, he mentioned that the future of Tripura is very bright.

The day is celebrated to pay honour to our constitution, when the Constitution of India came into force on 26 January 1950 replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India.

However, the Indian Constituent Assembly has adopted the constitution was on 26 November 1949 and it came in to effect on 26 January 1950 with a democratic government system.

However, the main Republic Day celebration is held in the capital of the nation at New Delhi, at the Rajpath. During the programme parades take place at the Rajpath in the presence of the President of India, Prime Minister and other dignitaries.
