AGARTALA, Jan 16 (TIWN): With an aim to generate awareness among the public about conserving petroleum products, Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight has been inaugurated on Saturday at Radhanagar.
The programme has been organized with the initiatives of the Petroleum Conservation and Research Association.
The day is being observed by the contribution of PCRA (Petroleum Conservation Research Association) with an aim to encourage people of the entire country as well as to increase the effectiveness of the campaign of oil conservation.
The initiative has been first started in the year 1991.
It has been mentioned that in order to raise the awareness about saving petroleum products among people the celebration of oil conservation week is necessary.
Petroleum products are being used by the people in many ways such as power plants, industries, fertilizer, commercial, domestic, transport sectors and so many.
Besides, the dignitaries have urged the people that it is the responsibility of every citizen to avoid waste of petroleum products and to protect the environment.
Therefore, they urged the people to drive steadily and at an optimum speed of 45 kilometres per hour, to use breaks only when needed and to anticipate the route and regulate speed so as to avoid breaking.
Besides, they also urged to use clutch pedal only to shift gears, as riding the clutch causes loss of energy and fuel. And also to switch off the engine at the red light signal.
However, maintenance tips for the two-wheeler for the fuel efficiency have been given. Where the people are urged to keep the air filter clean to avoid dirt that chokes and causes poor combustion, to keep regular check of tyre pressure and fuel leaks and many others.
However, during this celebration, a range of steps are expected to be taken to promote the petroleum products conservation in the various sectors like industrial, transport, agricultural, domestic and etc.
