Dr. B. R Ambedkar Memorial Award distribution programme observed

AGARTALA, Jan 7 (TIWN): Department for Welfare of Schedule Castes on Thursday organized Dr. B. R Ambedkar Memorial Award distribution programme at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan.

The programme has been inaugurated by Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Bhanulal Saha in the presence of Welfare of Scheduled Caste (SC) Minister Ratan Bhowmik, Director of Department for Welfare of Schedule Castes L. T Darlong, Secretary of Department for Welfare of Schedule Castes Puneet Agarwal and others were present.

During the programme, Mohan Lal Das of Jagaharimura of College Tilla has received Dr. B. R Ambedhkar Socio Culturea Award, 2015.

Souvik Das, Chirantan Das and Nabajyoti Majumder have received Dr. B. R Ambedkar Swarnapadak, 2015.

Besides, at the college and University level three students have received award for essay competition. The mentioned names are Sukla Ghosh, Monalisha Debnath and Pranati Hrishidas.

However, at the school level Sourav Das, Debayan Das and Ishita Das received award for essay competition.

On the other hand, a total of 295 students of Madhyamik Higer Secondary level under Sadar sub-division have received Dr. B. R Ambedkar Memorial Award, 2015.

The SC meritorious students who have successfully occupied merit position from 1st position to 10th position in Madhyamik / HS examination during 2014 to 2015, SC Students who passed the H.S/ Madyamik Examination during 2015 in Sadar Sub-Division also received award.

However, from class VI to VIII the student received Rs. 400 each, the students of Class 9 received Rs. 700 each, and the Madhyamik and HS 2 have received Rs. 1500 each.

It is to be mentioned here that Ambedkar was born on 14 April 1891 in the town and military cantonment of Mhow in the Central Provinces now in Madhya Pradesh.

Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar popularly known as Babasaheb, was an Indian jurist, economist, politician and social reformer who inspired the Modern Buddhist Movement and campaigned against social discrimination against Untouchables (Dalits), while also supporting the rights of women and labour.
