KAMALPUR, Jan 2 (TIWN): In a major move to end the long discrimination of the non-tribals in a non-tribal dominated ADC village, the villagers appealed to the Chief Election Commissioner of India to postpone the ensuing Village Committee votes for that ADC village. The villagers mailed the application to the CEC on the first day of 2016.

According to the villagers of the Apareshkar ADC village under Salema R.D. Block at Kamalpur subdivision in Dhalai district, the village got dominated by the non-tribals. Among the total population of 2916, the non-tribals remained 1781 and the tribals remained 1135. Further, among the total number of 1142 voters only 542 belonged to the tribal community. Still the village got scheduled under TTAADC area as a Village Council. As a result, the non-tribal people had to suffer discrimination. And they got deprived from all sorts of facilities and services provided by the government.

In this context, the villagers knocked to the administration several times and also staged different programs to make the three wards namely Rambashi para, Ramsadhu para and Rammanik para out of the jurisdiction of ADC village. The matter intensified more as the administration failed to provide any relevant regulations or documents as to why the village was scheduled as ADC village.

In this situation, the villagers knocked the Election Commission of India to postpone the ensuing village committee election for this village to end their long drawn discrimination. Now, what step the ECI would adopt remained the matter to be seen.
