AGARTALA, Jan 2 (TIWN): Despite of stunning figures of power bill remains pending in various government departments and offices, State Government is least bothered to pay the huge amount to the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL). Talking to TIWN correspondent, Senior Manager of Revenue Department Falguni Biswas stated that till the month of November, 2015 a total bill of Rs. 60 crore has been figured out by the department. Besides, she mentioned that the Department has forwarded a detail copy of the pending bills to all the Government Department whose electricity bill crosses the limited line Rs. 1 lakh. All the Government Departments whose bill had crossed Rs. 1 lakh, the department has been sent the bill details. Besides, it has been mentioned that accept Public Sector Undertaking companies all the other Departments under State Government were sent the bill details. It is to mentioned here that Chief Minister Manik Sarkar had spent crores of rupees for the election campaign but when it comes to clear up the bill of the TSECL no response comes from the Government Departments. However, this amount should be recovered on priority basis and if the institutions fail to pay, strict action should be taken against them.Despite the stunning figures of pending bills; the power connection to the departments cannot not be disconnected as most of their services come under the emergency category.

The Government departments with multiple connections usually don’t pay bills on a regular basis because of budgetary constraints. Most of them pay only when they are granted funds by the State government.

Therefore, the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd could not shape up the fate of Rs. 60 crore which is the amount till the month of November, 2015.

On other hand, if any one among the common mass fails to pay the bill on time the officials of the TSECL disconnect the electricity connection claiming that if the bill is not cleared than the family will not get any connection.

Besides, people in several unauthorised colonies, which have sprung in the city in recent years, could be found stealing power using hooks lines.

Areas like ADC and Jumpui Jala the power theft case is rampant.

It’s often an “invisible” crime. Someone illegally hooks into a power supply, hooks up a line that has been disconnected, or tampers with a meter to avoid recording electricity usage. At some places the field staff of the department even helps people steal electricity in return of money.
