AGARTALA, Dec 24 (TIWN): Like the other parts of the country, Tripura gears up to celebrate the most awaited Christmas Day on December 25.
Along with the City, shops all across the Capital lighten up with colourful lights and sparkling decoration.
People are observed busy in buying various items and gift for their close and dear one.
Besides, the churches in the State are cleaned and painted, even the statue of Jesus Christ were brushed up.
However, the Day is being celebrated to remember the birth of Jesus Christ, whom the Christians believe is the Son of God.
The day is being celebrated with traditional gaiety, religious fervour and enthusiasm across the State.
Despite of biting cold, the believers visits the church to attend prayers and the programme organized on the celebration of Christmas Day.
The day is to be observed through various religious and cultural events including musical shows. Community feasts were also organised at various venues.
Besides, the capital of Tripura had been gearing up for the year-end festivities with spectacular illumination and festoons while Christmas trees and wreaths adorned almost every shops of the capital city Agartala.
Cake shops are busy in making decorative and colourful cakes.
Christmas celebrations have long begun on the night of the 24th, due in part to the Christian liturgical day starting at sunset, a practice inherited from Jewish tradition and based on the story of Creation in the Book of Genesis: "And there was evening, and there was morning – the first day."
Christmas Eve is the evening or day before Christmas Day, occurring on December 24 in Western Christianity and the secular world. Christmas Day is observed around the world, and Christmas Eve is widely observed as a full or partial holiday in anticipation of Christmas Day.
However, all the churches are decorated with an aim to celebrate the day enthusiastically.
