AGARTALA, Dec 24 (TIWN): All the 49 newly elected members of Agartala Municipal Corporation on Thursday were felicitated by Tripura Municipal Employees Samiti at CT Centre.
It is to be mentioned here that the formation of the new AMC, MCs, and NPs is already completed and the oath taking ceremony was administered by DM on December 21.
However, Dr. Prafullajit Sinha once again took oath as the Mayor of Agartala Municipal corporations (AMC).
Elections were held to the 144-years-old Agartala Municipal Corporation, 13 municipal councils and five nagar panchayats in Tripura on Wednesday. Around 89 percent of the 537,968 electorate voted in the polls in Left-ruled Tripura.
In all, 886 candidates, including 429 women, from all parties contested the politically important civic polls.
Left Front Party where leads the AMC election with majority votes, Prafullajit Sinha wins in ward number- 24 with above three thousand votes on December 12.
The 144-year-old Agartala Municipal Corporation is the oldest municipal body in the north-eastern region. The Agartala municipality, which turned into a corporation two years back, was constituted in 1871.
There are about 5.24 lakh voters whose vote would decide the fate of 886 candidates across 657 polling booths. There was no report of any violence during the polling period and the vote was conducted peacefully in the state.
Out of 310 seats in the 20 local civic bodies, Left parties won in 291 seats while the Congress bagged 13 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party four and independents two.
However, overall Left Front has managed to capture 45 seats out of 49 in AMC whereas Congress got four seats but BJP fails to capture any seat in the AMC election.
