UDAIPUR, Dec 24 (TIWN): National Consumers Right Day was observed at Udaipur on 24 December on Thursday. The day is being observed on 24 December, since the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 was enacted on this day in 1986.
On the occasion of the national consumer’s day, a district level seminar was inaugurated by MLA Madhav saha at Udaipur Rajashri town hall. The seminar was organised by Gomati district administration.
The Consumer Protection Act was enacted in 1986 with the objective of providing better protection of consumer’s interest. Effective safeguards are provided to the consumer, against various types of exploitations and unfair dealings, relying mainly on compensatory rather than a disciplinary or preventive approach under the Act. It applies to all goods and services unless specifically exempted, which covers the private, public and cooperative sectors. It also provides speedy and inexpensive adjudication.
In India, 24th December is observed as National Consumer Day. On this day the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 had received the assent of the President. The enactment of this Act was considered as a historic milestone in the consumer movement in the country. This Act aims to provide consumers with effective safeguards against different types of exploitation such as defective goods, unsatisfactory services and unfair trade practices.
This day provides an opportunity for individuals to highlight the importance of the consumer movement and the need to make every consumer more aware of their rights and responsibilities. It should be also noted that World Consumer Rights Day is observed on 15th March every year.

However, MLA Madhav Saha, NP Chairperson Subrata Deb, ADM PL Chakma, Gomati district sabhadipati Suniti Saha along with other dignitaries remained present in the program.
