AGARTALA, Dec 10 (TIWN): Countdown begins for the results of the much propagated municipal election which was successfully concluded on Wednesday.The fate of 886 contesting candidates will be decided on Saturday as the counting of votes will takes place. All arrangements have been made for the free and fair counting of votes.Majority of the results are expected to be out by Saturday afternoon. The counting of ballots will start at 8-00 AM on December 12 and will end by afternoon.Results to this year’s most important political event, the Tripura civic poll, are moments away. The exit polls and the comments have presented contrasting outcomes. And all we know is that we do not quite know who will win. From politicians to corporate, to common man everyone is keeping a close watch on the verdict as the municipal election result will have a huge impact on the assembly election in Tripura.The lengthy phase of civic poll is finally over and now just the verdict is awaited. None of the prediction after a total of 88.24 percent turnout of vote is giving a clear majority for either side. People will just have to wait till the final counting to know for the sure who is going to rule in Tripura. But the excitement seems to have escalated, with the major parties in a fierce neck to neck fight in the ballot battle.Arrangements for counting have been made where a total of 5, 24,612 electorate has exercise their franchise in this phase in which 886 candidates including 429 women are contesting.

Amid tight security Vote cast for altogether 20 civic bodies including Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), 13 Municipal Councils and 6 Nagar Panchayats was concluded peacefully with a total turnout of 88.24 percent of total votes in the municipal election.

It is to be mentioned here that the vote cast was conducted amidst tight security and mood of festivity.

Polling was almost conducted in peaceful circumstances and there was no report of any major untoward incident without some minor reports of EVM malfunctioning at few polling booths.

No political party has so far lodged any complaint regarding the polling. Elections to prestigious Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and nineteen Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats are all set to witness triangular fight with all major political parties- Left Front, Congress and BJP contesting the battle of ballots separately.

A total of 6,600 security personnel were deployed to conduct free and fair election. In order to ensure free and fair civic elections in Tripura, the Union Home Ministry sanctioned the deployment of 15 companies of Central Para Military Forces (CPMF) for election.

Vote cast on Wednesday held to the 49-seat Agartala Municipal Corporation, 13 municipal councils and five Nagar Panchayats across the state
