Indo-Bangla border sealed, security increased for upcoming Tripura Municipal Election : Voting continues across Tripura

AGARTALA, Dec 9 (TIWN): Security has been beefed up and the Indo-Bangla international border and was sealed for peaceful conduct of the municipal election on Wednesday.Border with Bangladesh has been sealed as Tripura’s 19 municipal bodies including Agartala Municipal Corporation will go to poll on Wednesday.Standard security measures have been taken for peaceful conduct of the civic poll. Central paramilitary forces, including CRPF, are patrolling in the constituency areas and BSF is put on maximum alert and the Indo-Bangla international border is sealed.Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Leader of Opposition (Congress) Sudip Roy Burman and Tripura BJP president Sudhindra Dasgupta campaigned for their respective candidates in the given wards. Security along India­ Bangladesh border was further tightened and paramilitary troops were on high alert since Tuesday in wake of the municipal election. The Border Security Force (BSF) has been put on high alert and has been asked to remain vigilant to foil any infiltration attempt by the militant. Border Security Force (BSF) is on alert so that militants cannot infiltrate hence security has been increased and it has been also decided to keep its border sealed. The Border Security Force personnel are performing their duty as there are elections in Tripura on December 9.

The campaign for the Upcoming Municipal election ended peacefully on Monday evening as per the laws and regulations slated by the election commission. 

As per the order of the State electoral officials electioneering by all contesting parties concluded 48 hours prior to poll day, this also includes candidates' appealing through SMSes and tele-calling.

However, if any candidate is found campaigning during those crucial 48 hours, action would be taken for violating the code of conduct.  Any means of campaign, including foot march, door to door campaign, election rally, distribution of pamphlets came to an end with the closing of the election campaign ahead of the civic poll in the state.

With the end of the campaign, the security arrangements have just geared up in the state to avoid any untoward incident just ahead of the municipal election in the state.

Regular patrolling of the security force begins in full swing to conduct free and fair election in the state.

However, the Municipal election is held on December 9 and the counting will be conducted on December 12.
