AGARTALA, Dec 8 (TIWN): Acting on a tip off, the excise department under the initiative of DM west Millind Ramteke seized a total of 852 litre of country made liquor from Suryamani Nagar on Tuesday morning.
Two persons were arrested in connection on Tuesday.
The arrested were identified as Abani Debbarma and Sujit Chowdhury. Police said the duo was preparing to sell the liquors in the city for extra income.
The arrest of the duo was following the information received by Excise department official Bibhangshu Das from a secret source.
Excise department had intensified drive against groups involved in making country made liquor targeting low-income groups living in the hilly regions of the state.
Reportedly, on Tuesday morning the excise department official under the initiative of the Bibhangshu Das the 5 member team raided the two tempo truck at Suryamaninagar which was heading towards Agartala from Madhupur area.
After regular search the official seized a total of 852 litre of country made liquor. In the first attempt a total of 670 litres and 182 litre of country made liquor were seized from the two different tempo truck bearing number TR01F0349 and TR01T0786.
However, the accused drivers are arrested and further investigation is underway.
It is to be mention here that the seizure of the country made liquor ahead of the election has raised question among the people.
As part of intensive drive to check the use of money and violation of Model Code of Conduct, about 852 litre of liquors were seized on Tuesday from Suryamaninagar ahead of the civic poll in the state.
