AGARTALA, Oct 17 (TIWN): A workshop on media capacity building on Disaster Management organized on Saturday at Agartala Press Club.
Information and Cultural Affairs Department in collaboration with Agartala Press Club organized the programme, sponsored by Revenue Department.
The programme was inaugurated by Minister of Information and Cultural Affairs Bhanulal Saha in the presence of Special Secretary of Revenue Department K. M Das, Special Secretary of Information and Cultural Affairs Department S. Bandyopadhyay and others.
Aiming to develop the ability of resource persons to train journalists on the importance and nuances of disaster and related reporting this programme has been organized.
The initiatives has been taken to sensitized the journalist on the critical role they play during the disaster scenario through issuing early warnings and by spreading awareness to help preparedness and mitigation.
Therefore, they need to be made conscious of the possible positive implications or negative fallouts of disaster report.
The module is targeted at mid and senior journalists across all types of media which includes, Print, Electronic both radio and television, web media and photo journalist. It will target the trainees at national, regional and district level. Besides, it will look specifically at senior people in the bureau management and mid/senior level reports.
Speaking at the programme, Minister Bhanulal Saha expressed delight over the initiative. People should come up and raise their helping hand towards the disaster victims, said Minister Saha.
Though Tripura yet to face any kind of disaster but still the people should be prepared to handle, added.
The programme has been presided over by President of Agartala Press Club, Satyabrata Chakraborty.
