Vegetable markets in the state still on hike, authority playing role of silent spectator

AGARTALA, October 11 (TIWN): With Durga Puja knocking at the door, vegetable markets in the state still on hike creating problem from the common people.

Even after months of price hike of Onion, which has almost touched the sky from Rs. 40 to Rs. 80, Food, Civil supplies and Consumers Affairs Minister Bhanu lal Saha is yet bothered to check the price hike of the onions and the vegetables in the wholesale as well retail market.

It is worthy to mention that after prolonged suffering faced by the public, Food, Civil supplies and Consumers Affairs Minister Bhanu lal Saha finally managed to enforce vigilance team to check the market price of the vegetables and the reason behind the price hike. But till day no sign of the vigilance team has been seen.

Just before the Durga Puja celebration when people will celebrate the days with their families and will have invitees, the market value of the vegetables has shaken the pocket mostly the middle class and the poor families. As onion is very essential ingredient in vegetable so we can't ignore it while buying the other vegetables. The government has to step in to control the price, claimed the locals.

The hikes in the prices of vegetables have upset the budgets of middle and lower class families, particularly affecting those below the poverty line. The rise in prices of vegetables has created great dissatisfaction among the public.

However, despite of the sudden price hike in the vegetable markets, people across the state are busy in buying clothes and other items at the market. Garment shops and jewellers of the city are busy in handling and managing large group of people who flock to the shops to buy clothes and ornaments for their near and dear ones.
