Congress to hold massive protest in November against the negligence of AMC

AGRATALA, Oct 11 (TIWN): Raising voice against the negligence attitude of the AMC (Agartala Municipal Corporation) towards the rampant pollution of Howrah water, Tripura Pradesh Congress on Saturday in a press meet at Congress Bhawan has called for a series of massive protest in the state for the month of November.

Alleging rampant corruption by AMC, Pradesh Congress would hold massive protest on November 3 in all the 49 wards of the state. Followed by the massive protest, a protest rally from the entire 49 AMC ward would gather in front of Rabindra Bhawan on November 5 to protest against the discrepancy of AMC.

As per the scheduled programme, the Tripura Pradesh Congress would also hold protest rally in November 6 in all the19 city of the state.

Speaking in the press meet, Congress state president Birajit Sinha said that AMC has been showing negligent attitude towards maintenance of the cleanliness of the Howrah River.

The river water get contaminated due to practice of manual cleaning of septic tanks, direct connection of overflow pipes of septic tanks into storm water drain, relatively large number of kaccha latrines and practice open defecation” he added.

He also said the AMC was suppose to construct sanitary toilet for the people residing along the river but there is no such report of construction of any sanitary toilet resulting the pollution of the of the river water, alleged Sinha. As per the report of Tripura State Pollution Control Board, Howrah River becomes grossly polluted in Agartala city due to the garbage’s being dumped into the river.

The Howrah River’s Pollution is now at such a high level that the amount of toxins, chemicals and other dangerous bacteria found in the river are now almost threatening a danger to the lives of the people.

Howrah which is the life-line of water service for Agartala is being polluted every minute due to both domestic sewage and other pollutants that are being dumped in to the river untreated.

However, Congress spokesperson Ashok Sinha is appointed as the convenor for the launch of manifesto for AMC election.

Opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman, working president Asish Saha along with other dignitaries remained present in the program.
