AGARTALA, Oct 10 (TIWN): OTPC will start export of power from Palatana project to Myanmar from next month in order to light up Tamu town of Myanmar, sources said .The company will export power to Tamu town in Myanmar via Manipur from the the 726 Megawatts Palatana project.

The town is close to Manipur state,  currently does not have any grid connection and people there use diesel generator sets for power. This is going to be a very important power export and Indian Government readily agreed for this and we will export 3 MW of power and this will be sufficient to light up the town. Meanwhile, discussion Myanmar  and  Indian Government is finalizing the exact modalities of the export.

According to the  source exporting  100  MW power to Bangaldesh is at final stage, it is likely to start from January  or February next year. The inter-country power transmission line erection route from Tripura's state grid Suryamaninagar to South Comilla of Bangladesh covering 51 km stretches including 24 km in Indian side is almost complete.

From Suryamaninagar substation, the line would be drawn by the Indian government up to Konaban, the crossing point to Bangladesh, covering a distance of about 24 km. From Konaban the line would enter Bangladesh territory and would be drawn by the Bangladesh government up to Comilla grid covering a distance of about 27 km which would cost about Rs 106.75 C

OTPC, a joint venture among state run oil and gas explorer, Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Limited (IL&FS) and the Tripura government, has now a capacity of 726.6 MW and supplies power to the entire North Eastern region. The company seeks to provide energy to industrialisation efforts in the area as it would be unviable for ONGC to transport the gas it produces from this region to the markets in more industrial parts of the country.
