AGARTALA, Oct 9 (TIWN): The next hearing for the case of termination of 10323 teachers last year has been scheduled for January 7, 2016, said an official of law department over the phone. He informed that the case came for hearing on Friday at the apex court Registrar General's court, but on request from petitioner’s apex court it postponed the hearing and gave the new date.
A division bench of the Tripura High Court, comprising Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Swapan Chandra Das, in its judgment May 7, 2014 terminated the jobs of 10,323 government school teachers citing discrimination and irregularities.
The high court also asked the state government to put in place a fresh recruitment process by December 2014 and frame a new employment policy within two months. Tripura's Left Front government recruited 1,100 post-graduate and 4,617 graduate teachers in 2010 and 4,606 under-graduate teachers in December 2013
The Tripura government has filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court challenging the order of the High Court of Tripura, in which HC has cancelled the appointment of 10,323 teachers including post-graduate, graduate and under-graduate teachers.
Earlier, Supreme Court admitted the special leave petition (SLP) and stayed Tripura High Court's order for framing a new employment policy within two months and gave relief to 10,323 sacked government teachers.
The high court, after hearing the state government and the complainants, passed the order on a batch of 58 petitions filed by those who had failed to secure jobs as government teachers.
Meanwhile the state government have regularized all the graduate and post graduate teachers who have completed their five years in service.The teachers recruited in 2011 have completed their five years this year.
