AGARTALA, October 6 (TIWN): At the time when price of various commodities are raising enormously, around fifteen urban buses under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) are lying inoperative.

Reportedly, it has been less than 2years that the buses were operated on the streets of the capital. In this tenure around fifteen buses are inoperative due to some mechanical damages. At present, some are kept at the Chandrapur ISBT and some are at TRTC.

Most of the people prefer bus for the long distance destination and also for the reason in the hike of Auto fare. Due to lack of proper bus services in the city the public has to commute in Auto.

According to the sources, there are no major problems or damages in the buses but keeping it in inactive mode can create major damage in the buses.

Tripura Left front government plans to procure at least 100 new buses to go on road in and around the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) areas with a cost of Rs. 35 crore with an aim to contain the passengers rush in the capital town.

The Central Government has already provided 70 buses under JNNURM project according to the demand of the state.

During the year 2014, the Union Ministry for Urban Development (UD) sanctioned 100 additional buses for Tripura as part of strengthening its public transport network.

It is mentionable here that after getting direction from High Court of Tripura, the state government decided to operate 100 new buses on the streets of the city and out skirts of the city within few days.

However, negligence of the authority and playing a silent role of spectators of the improper bus service issue is creating harassment for the people. Mostly the lower and middle class families are facing the music of harassment.
