AGARTALA, Sep 28 (TIWN): With the opening of the alternative NH, goods loaded trucks have started arriving in the state, which were stranded for many days. About 250 lorries carrying petroleum products, another 300 carrying perishable items and a few hundred loaded trucks of other essential items were stranded at the roads for the past few days, which has finally entered the state through the alternative National Highway.

Security measures have also tightened up in the alternative highway to check any illegal intrusion of the vehicle in the state.

If the movement of the goods loaded truck continues to enter in the state in such a smooth manner the crisis of the goods to meet an end soon in the state.

The business man claimed that, with the opening of the alternative NH the goods have started arriving in the state which would put a curb on the crisis of the goods in the market.

The state is mostly dependent on almost all of the goods from outside the state including fish, which is generally imported from Andhra Pradesh.

The alternative way of NH-44 is known as N H C Road. This road is opened for the benefit of the people, as due to NH-44’s pathetic condition foods within the vehicles has been rotten on the way. As a result market price of vegetables had also gone high. With this alternative’s road’s opening the price hike may also be lowered, says businessman.

However, question has been aroused why the govt. didn’t take the initiative of the alternative road earlier, although it had the options.

It is to be mentioned here that after taking over the charge of maintenance of NH-44 the PWD has not work up to the mark for its maintenance. After the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MORTH) handed over development and maintenance of 104 km of the Assam Agartala National Highway (NH-44) to the PWD from Border Roads Organization (BRO) in July 16th, 2013, the condition of the NH-44 is getting worse day-by-day due to negligence of PWD.
