AGARTALA, Sep 26 (TIWN): With the initiative to curb the dadagiri of the unruly auto drivers on the streets, the traffic police has finally manage time to give a check on the auto drivers. Months after the violation of the High Court decision to fix point-to-point auto-rickshaw fare chart in the autos, the traffic police on Saturday came forward to check the implementation of the decision by the auto drivers. Finally after several months of the decision, the traffic police were found verifying the auto permits and were warning the auto drivers to fix the point to point fare rate charts in the autos. The decision is simply violated by the auto drivers in a broad day light and was openly charging high fare from the passengers. Even if some passengers asked the auto drivers to keep the fare as per the point -to-point fare the drivers harasses the passengers and misbehaves with them.As per the direction all the drivers to paste the point to point fare rate chart in their auto but hardly some counting drivers has pasted the rate chart in their autos. Interestingly, those who have pasted the point-to-point rate chart it is just for the namesake and none of them has effectively implemented the fare of the rate chart and are continuously demanding hiked fare from the passengers, said traffic police. It is to be mentioned here that even after the Tripura High Court’s Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Subhasish Talapatra has directed to install point-to-point fares along auto-permits, none of the auto drivers has implemented this point-to-point auto fares. Rather showing a thumb finger to the HC order and Violating the law and order of the Tripura HC, the unruly auto drivers across the capital city are found charging high fares as per their whims and fancies.

Along with this, the Court has asked the State Government of Tripura to allot distinct uniforms and badges to auto-owners.

Though the state Government and Transport department partially complied with the directions of the Court, yet the ‘point-to-point fares’ dictum was flouted.

After so many days of the direction of the HC none of the direction is followed by the CITU backed auto drivers in the Agartala city. It completely shows the negligent attitude of the traffic department and the state government.

As a part of the drive the traffic police have warned the auto drivers to fix the point to point rate chart as early as possible and to charge the fixed rate fare from the passengers.
