AGARTALA, September 16 (TIWN): Education Department on Wedenesday organized a preparation meeting at Bir Chandra Library to discuss about the schedule programme during the visit of the Union Minister for Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani.

According to the schedule, Minister for Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani in her visit to the North East at Tripura on September 18. going to hold  meeting with the Education Ministers and the Secretaries of the North East State on the new education policy of the Centre.

It is expected that the meeting will be held at Pragna Bhawan of Agartala on September 18.

It has been mentioned that the main objective of the meeting is to discuss about the structure of the new education policy of the Centre and it implementation in the region.

However, this would be the first meeting of HRD Minister Smriti Irani at Agartala.   

All the ministers of education of all the North Eastern states are expected to remain present in the meeting called to be held at Tripura capital.

During the meeting, Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty, West Tripura District Sabadhipati Dilip Das and other dignitaries along with Head Masters of various schools were present.

The National Policy on Education has been formulated by the Government of India to promote education amongst India's people. The policy covers elementary education to colleges in both rural and urban India.

The first NPE was promulgated in 1968 by the government of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and the second by Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1986.
