Chief Justice visits Sabroom Court : ‘Attack on Judges is dangerous for Democracy’; Law & Order breaks down under lameduck Manik’s rule, Chief Justice asks CM to take action

SABROOM / AGARTALA, September 5 (TIWN): “Attack on judges is simply attacking the entire judicial system of State and it is very dangerous for Democracy”, Chief Justice Deepak Gupta condemned attack on Judge Saurabh Saha and decaying law & order situation in State. Following the incident of Sabroom on September 2, Chief Justice Deepak Gupta went to Sanbroom and met Magistrate Sourav Saha on Saturday and condemned the incident. Chief Justice Dipak Gupta said that such an incident is a threat to democracy and persons who are involved in this will be punished soon, it doesn’t matter they belong to which group or party.”I am shocked with this attack on Judicial system,also very upset after such an incident, took place with a Magistrate”, he added. CJ Deepak Gupta went to Sabroom at 9.30 am and met with Magistrate Saurav Saha and other victims of the incident and the meeting continued for 1 hour. Chief Justice visited Sabroom court and took a serious note of the incident. The ghastly incident took place on September 2, the day of CPI-M backed All India Trade Union Strike. During the strike Magistrate Saurabh Saha with two other employees along with a bank clerk was on the way to the court when the CPI-M goons/picketers blocked him entering court. Finally with Police escort Judge Saurabh Saha entered Court.

After a while, when the Saha when began his work, CPI-M goons thronged into his office and broke the doors and windows alongwith benches and beaten up Judge.Magistrate Saurabh Saha filed FIRs against 2 local CPI-M leaders Bijay Dey and Biswajit Dey as main culprits.

Gupta further said, “It’s a shame that although full state observed strike peacefully, its only Belonia and Sabroom which could not maintain a peaceful strike”. Chief Justice asked DM and ADM South to look after the matter seriously.

During the incident, Saha somehow escaped to the washroom and managed to save his life.

Later the incident was informed to the South S.P Bhanu Pada Chakraborty. During the incident, in the meanwhile Saha somehow stayed hidden and managed to save his life. Later South SP Bhanu Pada Chakraborty pulled out Magistrate Saurabh Saha from the hand of the picketers and brought the situation under control.

It’s to be mentioned that Sabroom Police arrested 2 of the 4 accused on Friday. While talking to TIWN, South SP Bhanu Pada Chakraborty said over phone, “We arrested 2 and left 2 persons would also be arrested soon. Chakraborty added. “There is a chance that they might have escaped to Bangladesh as many parts of Sabroom is encircled by Bangladesh Border”.

He further said, “BSF has been alerted and they are keeping their strict vigil along border ”. The 2 accused who are yet to be arrested are Abhijit Debnath, and Abhik Basak and 2 arrested are: Bijay Dey and Biswajit Ghosh.

The FIR had been lodged after the incident took place when CPI-M goons had attacked on Sabroom Court Magistrate and OC of Sabroom PS at the day of All India Strike on September 2.

However the case had been lodged against in total 4 persons amnogst whom on Friday culprits Bijay Dey, Biswajit Ghosh had been arrested. It is to be mentioned here that Magistrate Saurabh Saha has lodged complaint against two leaders of ruling party identified as Bijay Dey and Biswajit Dey and other picketers.  On the other hand, OC Sanjit Das has lodged complaint against 4 persons.

Talking to media,  advocate Pijush Kanti Biswas said, “Such an event should not be repeated again in state”.

Sabroom SP said, “It doesn’t matter whose party belong to whom, such an act is not be to be encouraged anyhow”. However 2 more accused are in hide, and police yet to catch them.
