Roads across the state paralysed, yet no initiatives

AGARTALA, September 5 (TIWN): Roads and footpaths across the state are in a deplorable condition for prolonged days. Most footpaths in the city have shed their topping and pedestrians have to be extra cautious while encountering the bumpy skeletal trails now. The roads are no better either since the topping that were given less than a year ago have developed into potholes.Besides, the potholes which are visible are being topped with bricks which have made the road bumpy and jumpy creating more risk for the commuter and made the roads an accident prone area.During the monsoon the pot holes get feel with the rain water, splashes around when any vehicle crosses over which creates a dirt everywhere. It is mostly being said that roads bring prosperity to the area or the country. But so far in Tripura the roads have become an identical with accidents and misery and have become adventurous for the vehicles owners as well as the passengers. The situation has deteriorated to such an extent that news of accidents and bikes and scooters turning down after failing to negotiate deep ditches keep pouring in on a regular basis.

Besides, the National Highways in the state which are meant for smooth flow of traffic have become synonymous with frequent jams and accidents thanks to the tussle between public works department (PWD) and the ministry of road transport and highways (MORTH) over the maintenance of these highways.

Allegation rose that the condition of National Highway has worsened after it was handed over to the State PWD by NHAI, which raised hopes among the commuters that their troubles would meet an end. But their hopes went to vein as the condition of the NH-44 is getting worse day by day. After taking over the charge of maintenance of NH-44 the PWD is not working up to the mark.

After the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MORTH) handed over development and maintenance of 104 km of the Assam Agartala National Highway (NH-44) to the PWD from Border Roads Organization (BRO) in July 16th, 2013, the condition of the NH-44 is allegedly getting worse day-by-day due to negligence of PWD.

Besides, the roads like Udaipur, Amarpur, Korbook, Dharmanagar, Kailashahar, and the NH44 roads are also facing problems due to the negligence of the concern authority.

However, the frequent disruption of vehicular movement, seasonal landslides and alarmingly high rates of tragic accidents that claims scores of live  have become the regular issue of the day, but so far none of the authorities responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the arterial road have come to the rescue of the commuters.
