Railway junction at Sekherkote; more 300 acres of land to be acquired

AGARTALA, September 5 (TIWN):Along with the commencement of broad gauge conversion work from Badarpur – Agartala from October 1st next , infrastructure development will also be carried out at various railway stations, informed an official of adding North East Frontier railway (NFR) have selected Sekherkote near Agartala railway station for making railway junction.

Acquisition of land for junction have begun after talking with state government, around 300 acres of land will be acquired. The railway will pay 10 times more that of government price.The work of junction will start after getting the fund, said the railway official.

Meanwhile, the Agartala railway station will adorn a new look other then the main building. Major work is almost complete, six platforms, over bridge and new ticket counter  will be constructed. "We would be able to convert around 227 km from Badarpur to Agartala by March 31, 2016. It would be possible because narrow gauge track was laid in a big portion of the track in Broad Gauge format. Besides, other works like construction of railway stations, staff quarters or creation of water bodies have already been completed,"  said the official .

 It is mentionable here that running of passenger and goods trains in Badarpur-Kumarghat-Agartala section will be stopped from September 20 to facilitate faster conversion of existing meter gauge track to a broad gauge one.

 

Train number 05263 Agartala-Karimganj passenger special and 05264 Karimganj-Agartala passenger special will stop running from September 20, Sharma said.
