AGARTALA, September 4 (TIWN): with the wide spread panic following the incident of loot and lifting of the SBI ATM from the Beltali kiosk under the A.D.Nagar police station the bank administration is keen to improve the security and safety of the ATM kiosks across Tripura, says A.D.Nagar police official to TIWN correspondent on Thursday.

As per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guideline, it is a mandatory for all banks to provide a security guard, CCTV camera and trigger alarms at all ATMs. However, most of the ATMs donot have a security guard and CCTV cameras.

Most of the time it has been noted that the cameras which has been installed in the ATM booths remains non-functional or damaged.

With the aim to strengthen the security measures at the ATM counter, bank officials would hold a meeting with the police personals soon.

Banks should abide by the guidelines to install CCTV cameras and deploy trained security guards at ATM counters. For effective security at ATMs, CCTV cameras, that can capture both interior and exterior of the counter, should be installed and round the clock guarding ensured, said a police official.

Along with installing the CCTV cameras, there should also be continues monitoring of the footage to curb the crime at the ATM kiosk.

Manpower and logistics constraints do not allow police to provide preventive security at all ATMs in the city round the clock. So, the bank authorities should adopt optimum measures to secure their premises,” he said.

In most of the ATM counters there is no proper security which adds a fuel to the rise of the rampant ATM theft cases across the state.
