Ganadoot Triple Murder Case: hearing of murderer Sushil's bail plea completed, judgement reserved; Chief Justice blasts Police for lackluster investigation

AGARTALA, August 28 (TIWN): Bail plea hearing for the Ganadoot triple murder case against accused Sushil Chowdhury completed on Friday, the judgement of the plea is yet to be announced.Talking to TIWN correspondent, Chowdhury’s lawyer Pijush Kanti Biswas said that the hearing is complete at the court and now waiting for the final judgement. Adding to his comment he also said that the judgement will take time.However, it is to be mentioned that the Tripura High Court on August 2 postponed the bail plea hearing of Gandoot triple murder case to August 27 this year.This is for the fourth time that the Ganadoot triple murder accused Sushil Chowdhury has been produced before Tripura High Court with bail plea on August 27.The HC under the division bench of Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Subhashish Talapatra, however sat for the final hearing on the bail plea of mastermind Sushil Chowdhury on August 27 who was earlier sentenced to life term imprisonment by the lower court for his involvement in the murder case of at least three staffs at Ganadoot daily local office.As the hearing was not completed on August 27, he was again produced before the court on Friday. The PP continued his argument following which the court has heard the Sushil’s bail plea. Now, the final judgement has been kept reserved.Chowdhury’s lawyer Pijush Kanti Biswas in the last hearing stated the court that there are several loopholes in the police investigations and glaring anomalies in the recorded statements of 22 of 42 witness claimed on that the statement of prime witness of the case Nyoti Ghosh should be verified.Hearing the plea of the alleged mastermind Sushil Chowdhury earlier, CJ Deepak Gupta had pointed out that the police had made no effort to conduct healthy investigation.

Three employees of 'Danik Ganadoot', a vernacular daily were killed inside the newspaper office premises at Palace Compound in the heart of the city on May 19, 2013 sending shock waves across the entire state.

However, previous year on July 17 The West Tripura Additional District and Sessions Judge’s Court had sentenced mastermind Sushil Chowdhury to life term imprisonment. Later challenging the verdict of the lower court, Chowdhury had knocked the door of High Court and sought for bail plea. The court had also slapped a fine of Rs. 60, 000 on Sushil Chowdhury.
