AGARTALA, August 17 (TIWN):Serious resentment is brewing among students and parents of Tripura Medical College (TMC).A notification was issued recently without prior information by authority stating that each student have to pay Rs 24000 mess money in advance, each month Rs 2000. Whereas the hostel remains close three to four months in a year. Parents have raised objection regarding the notification demanding its immediate withdrawal. The executive committee is sitting on Tuesday to discuss the issue.
The newly constituted executive committee of TMC is headed by Banamali Sinha. He was former principal secretary of state government. It was alleged that after his appointment as chairman of TMC he started demanding luxurious car,broad band, personal security guards and his monthly salary is Rs 90000. To fulfill the demands, TMC have no other option but to squeeze the students to meet the demand of Sinha. Besides the notification was issued without getting it approved by the executive committee. On tomorrow,s meeting there expected of heating argument among the members.
The issue was also in raised in assembly in the recently concluded assembly session by opposition congress members. They demanded immediate with drawal of the notification for the sake of students. Tripura Medical College & Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital The college was established in 2005 by the Government of Tripura and Global Educational Net (GENET) in a Public-Private Partnership, the first venture of its kind in India. But it received its first MCI permission for admission of students into M.B;B.S. course in 2006. However, during the month of April–May 2009, due to some reasons the GENET expressed their inability to run the institution any further. At that time 200 students were pursuing the M.B.B.S course from there. So the Government of Tripura decided to run the college through a society and registered a society in the name and style of " Society for Tripura Medical College" on 23 May 2009.
